Manchester United want to sign a midfielder and are keen on a deal for West Ham ace Declan Rice
According to the Manchester Evening News (h/t Express), Manchester United are going to prioritize the signing of a central midfielder next summer and have earmarked West Ham star Declan Rice as a ‘top target.’
The Red Devils are thought to have achieved their transfer priorities this summer after signing a top-class centre-back and a right-winger. Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho filled into the respective roles while signing Cristiano Ronaldo was just a bonus and was not on the agenda initially.
Although they did strengthen in certain areas, they could not make additions in the midfield line. It is also said that United could not find a high-quality option in that area this summer.
But that is about to change as they have made it a priority to sign one next summer. Paul Pogba has had an uncertain future at the club and is yet to sign a contract extension on his current deal, which will expire at the end of this season. Similarly, Nemanja Matic will enter the final 12 months of his contract next summer.
In fact, the Manchester-based also know who they want to sign. Declan Rice has been impressive at West Ham United in recent seasons but has rejected two contract extensions. A wonderful performer for England as well, the 22-year-old’s contract is set to expire in 2024.
The Old Trafford outfit will try to orchestrate a deal for him as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to be wanting to change his formation to a 4-3-3 and does not trust any of his current defensive midfielders at the club.

Thus, in what has been deemed a move to satisfy Solskjaer, Rice is thought to be actively targeted over a potential move next summer as the 13-time Premier League champions look to build a quality squad.
