“Feeling at full power”: 24-year-old Man United ace determined to prove his worth this season

Dean Henderson vows to show his best performances in a Manchester United shirt this season

Speaking in an interview (h/t Metro), Manchester United star Dean Henderson has claimed that he is keen on proving his worth to the club this season after making his return last month.

The 24-year-old has endured a topsy-turvy 12 months at Old Trafford ever since the club decided to retain his services last season. The shot-stopper proved his quality at Premier League level with Sheffield United in the 2019/20 season as he kept the joint-third most clean sheets (13) that year.

Although United did retain his services, he only managed 13 Premier League appearances with the Manchester-based club last season. While it was thought that Henderson would start in goal for the club this season, he suffered Covid-19 during the club’s pre-season training and finally made his competitive return to action against West Ham in the EFL Cup last month.

Despite David de Gea proving vital in goal for the club this season, Henderson is keen on proving his worth to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. He told reporters in an interview (h/t Metro):

‘It’s been a tough few months for me, but to come back in now, amongst it and feeling at full power is a great feeling. I feel really good now and just want to get out there and prove my worth. I haven’t been my best in the Manchester United shirt yet.

‘I feel good, really good, now, and it’s about building those games up, game after game. Hopefully, I’ll get my opportunity, and I’ll build on it and be the best you’ve seen me in a United shirt.’

With United still competing in three competitions this season, there might just be enough game-time for both De Gea and Henderson. However, if the Englishman hopes to replace his Spanish compatriot as the No. 1, he would have to take his chances when they come his way.
