Bruno Fernandes believes Manchester United teammate Raphael Varane is a ‘leader’

Speaking in an interview (h/t Metro), Bruno Fernandes has hailed the impact brought about by Manchester United teammate Raphael Varane since his move last month.

The French international joined the Old Trafford outfit in a £34million after spending a gloriously decorated decade at Real Madrid. At 28, Varane still has a lot to give and perhaps has it in him to win the biggest trophies.

The centre-back has already slotted into the club’s starting lineup alongside Harry Maguire and is a huge reason for United’s 4th place position in the table currently, just a point below 1st placed Liverpool.

Bruno Fernandes has now heaped praise on his teammate and has also pointed out the Frenchman’s mentality. He told reporters in an interview (h/t Metro):

‘Of course, he’s a winner. Everyone knows that. He’s a nice guy and works really hard, and is always pushing everyone to do better. I think he has a great mentality, but at the same time, we cannot forget the other players.’

Fernandes also revealed Varane is a ‘leader’.

‘Rapha is really important for us, and has been really important for us, but the main point is everyone being okay to do the best that they can. Still, he’s a little bit shy in some ways, because it’s the beginning for him at United, but I think he’s a leader.’

The Portuguese midfielder was at fault on the weekend when he blazed his penalty into the stands as United lost their first league game of the season against Aston Villa. However, given the quality in their ranks, the Red Devils are sure to bounce back soon.

Both Varane & Fernandes will have their eye on the Villarreal game in mid-week as Solskjaer looks to pick up his first points in this year’s edition of the UEFA Champions League.
