Ole Gunnar Solskjaer issues update on Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw ahead of Manchester United vs Villarreal
According to the Express, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on the availability of both Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw for the UEFA Champions League clash against Villarreal.
The Red Devils fell short in their opener against Young Boys, falling to a stoppage-time defeat. The onus is on them to pick up all three points at home against the Europa League holders.
United are familiar with Unai Emery’s side having faced them in the Europa League final last season. The Yellow Submarines came out on top that time around, a result United will be keen to avoid.
Another loss on the spin could derail our hopes of qualifying for the round of 16. The task is not made easier with three first-choice defenders potentially ruled out.
According to the report, Solskjaer has confirmed that skipper Harry Maguire will not feature on the night. The Englishman also missed our last game against Villarreal and is once again set to miss out. Maguire has injured his calf could now be set for a spell on the sidelines.
“Harry is more or less definitely out, it doesn’t look good. It’s his calf, that might take a few weeks.”
Solskjaer went on to add that Shaw does have a chance of featuring. The left-back, however, has not trained with the team and it remains to be seen if the Norwegian will risk him.
“Luke has been in today so I’ll give him a chance to be involved.”
United will also be without Aaron Wan-Bissaka who is suspended for the game. The right-back is serving the punishment after being sent off in our 2-1 loss to Young Boys.
