Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer delivers injury update on Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire after Aston Villa defeat
Speaking after Manchester United lost to Aston Villa at Old Trafford (h//t official club website), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated that both Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire would have to be assessed for the injuries they picked up during the game.
The English left-back has had a good start to this season which is in tone with how he ended the last campaign for the Red Devils as well as the England national team. And as expected, he started again for United against the Villans.
But he picked up an injury around the halfway mark of the first half and had to be brought off a few minutes later despite trying to carry on. Harry Maguire soon followed with a leg injury of his own during the early stages of the second half.
Speaking after the devastating defeat, the Norwegian manager stated that the duo will have to be assessed and the extent and severity of their injuries cannot be revealed until then.
“Sorry, I can’t give you any updates. We will have to use today and tomorrow and Monday, or when we get the scans done, and see how they are.”
If the injuries are serious, it would come as a devastating blow for the Red Devils considering the importance of the English duo in their defence. But it’s not like they are short of options in those positions.
Solskjaer has a very able left-back in Alex Telles raring to go while Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly can do a job at centre-back alongside former Real Madrid superstar, Raphael Varane.

Despite the impressive depth, the fans would undoubtedly want their club captain and reliable left-back to be back in action as early as possible. But given that they had to be subbed off during the match, it may not be a small knock.
