Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United will welcome the addition of Raheem Sterling
According to Rio Ferdinand Presents Five (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has revealed that the Red Devils will welcome the chance to sign Manchester City superstar Raheem Sterling.
The English international enjoyed a fruitful summer as England made it to the final of Euro 2020. Despite the good run of form, his struggles at the Etihad continues.
Sterling was upstaged by Phil Foden last season and the arrival of Jack Grealish in the summer has hardly improved matters. Of his six appearances this season, he has made just two starts.
The 26-year-old currently has two years left on his current deal. At 26, he is entering his prime and should be playing regularly. Ferdinand has questioned Sterling’s fate and also his recent fall from grace.
“He was the go-to guy when they needed a goal, for so many years, and now all of a sudden he’s in the wilderness.”
The United legend admits that he would take Sterling at United any day. A match-winner on his day, Ferdinand goes on to imply that the winger is better off staying in England.
“If I’m Liverpool, I’d buy Sterling tomorrow … If I’m him, I wouldn’t go to Barcelona or Real Madrid right now, that’s why I said Liverpool … Man United will take him.”
United already have an excellent frontline brimming with young English talent. Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho could form the crux of not just the Red Devils attack for years to come but also that of the Three Lions.

Adding Sterling into the mix will give us a core of English talents familiar with each other’s abilities. The 26-year-old is an excellent player and would be a worthy addition to the United squad. However, there is little hope of City selling a player of Sterling’s ability to their arch-rivals.
Not many can claim to have played for not just both the Manchester clubs but also Liverpool. Signing Sterling will certainly annoy the fans of our two biggest rivals.
