Manchester United join Liverpool in pursuit of AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie

According to Tuttosport via Il Milanista (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United have joined the race along with Liverpool to actively pursue AC Milan’s star midfielder Franck Kessie.

The Rossoneri have held talks with the player and his agent to try and keep him at the club. There has been a lot of interest from the Premier League clubs.

The 24-year-old midfielder had an impressive 2020/21 season with Milan and is being pursued by some global giants in world football. Kessie joined Milan in 2017 on loan from Atalanta and was signed on a permanent deal in 2019. The Ivory Coast international has been an influential figure in the Rossoneri midfield.

Kessie’s contract with AC Milan is set to expire in the summer of 2022 and a new deal hasn’t been struck yet.

It is believed that the player is demanding €6.5m/7m annually and the Milan outfit seems unwilling to pay that kind of amount to the midfielder. The deal is at a standstill and the situation has sparked the curiosity of quite a few European clubs apart from Manchester United and Liverpool.

Kessie would be a great asset to any team. AC Milan remain intent on tying the player down to the club but it feels as though the Ivorian could be looking for a move away from the Italian club. But signing him is unlikely to be straightforward for the Red Devils with arch-rivals Liverpool also keen.
