Man United chief backs Solskjaer to keep his job amidst calls for sack

Ed Woodward backs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to stay at the job despite sack calls

Speaking ahead of the release of the club’s financial results (h/t The Express), Ed Woodward has backed Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to stay at the job despite calls for sacking him.

The Red Devils, who are yet to lose in the Premier League this season, picked up their first loss of the campaign against B.S.C Young Boys in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

United, who were initially leading against the Swiss club, went a man down after half an hour and lost the game after conceding 2 late goals. This led to some fans calling out for the Norwegian to be sacked.

Manchester United CEO Ed Woodward recently came out and spoke about this issue and backed Solskjaer to stay at the club this season. Woodward said (h/t The Express):

“We significantly strengthened the squad over the summer, with the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and Tom Heaton. These signings have demonstrated our continued ability to attract some of the world’s best footballers to Old Trafford and our firm commitment to helping Ole deliver success on the pitch.

“On the pitch, the team has made a strong start in the league, and everyone at the club is feeling excited about the rest of the campaign.”

The 48-year-old manager, who was appointed in December 2018, was awarded a new three-year contract earlier this summer. Solskjaer has in turn repaid the faith at the start of this season as the club are currently sitting top of the table alongside Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton.

The Red Devils will now be gearing up to face West Ham United on the weekend as they look to pick up 3 points and put up a real fight for the Premier League title this season.
