Transfer News: Manchester United one of only four clubs in race to sign Erling Haaland next summer
According to SportBild (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United are still in contention to sign Erling Haaland next summer and are one of only four clubs in the Norwegian’s chase.
The 21-year-old has not lost a beat since his prolific last season and is knocking in the goals for fun again this term. Since Haaland arrived at Dortmund back in January 2020, the youngster has rocketed 66 goals in 66 games for the German outfit and was a key part of helping the club to a 3rd place finish in the Bundesliga last season.
Thus, several clubs were interested in orchestrating a deal for the 21-year-old this summer but failed to do so after the Bundesliga club slapped a £150million price tag on the fearless forward.
However, the youngster is said have a clause in his contract that would make him available for €75million to his suitors, including Manchester United. Although the Red Devils added Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho to their squad this summer, a move for Haaland is still on the cards.
Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard will be out of contract next summer, while Ronaldo will turn 37 in February 2022. Thus, Haaland could add to the depth in United’s frontline while also be a long-term option through the middle for the Old Trafford outfit.
However, the Manchester-based club will have to fend off the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid, and PSG if they are to sign the striker, who ‘will almost certainly leave’, according to SportBild (h/t Sport Witness).
