Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo should have refrained from touchline antics
According to an interview done on BT Sport (h/t Metro), Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand feels Cristiano Ronaldo should have been ‘sitting down’ during the club’s UCL clash against Young Boys instead of ‘barking’ instructions on the touchline.
The Manchester-based club suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Swiss club B.S.C Young Boys on Tuesday evening after going a man down half an hour into the game.
However, before Wan Bissaka’s red card, the Old Trafford outfit were up by a goal, thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored his 3rd goal in the second game of his second stint at the club.
The Portuguese, however, had to be brought off after 72 minutes alongside Bruno Fernandes, as the duo were replaced by Jesse Lingard & Nemanja Matic. However, that was not the end of the game for the 36-year-old, who started coming on to the touchline to shout out instructions.
This is not the first time Ronaldo has done this, as he was seen doing something similar during Portugal’s 2016 Euro final against France. However, club legend Rio Ferdinand did not appreciate this behaviour of the former Juventus man. He told BT Sport (h/t Metro):
‘If I’m the manager, I’ve got to be honest, I’m telling him to sit down.’
Ferdinand later admitted that he understood why the Portuguese did what he did.
‘I get it. You know, with Cristiano people go, “Oh it’s bravado, it’s for the fans”. He’s just a passionate guy. He wants to win, he’s desperate to win, and he can’t hold it in.’
