Manchester United dealt blow as Leon Goretzka ‘agrees’ new deal with Bayern Munich
According to German outlet Kicker (h/t Team Talk), Manchester United target Leon Goretzka has agreed a new deal with Bayern Munich, potentially shattering the Red Devils’ hopes of signing him.
Goretzka has established himself as a great midfielder with Bayern Munich. However, his future had become a subject of speculation after he entered the final year of his contract. All that could be laid to rest now, with the new deal could see the 26-year-old stay at Bavaria until June 2026.
Manchester United had an impressive transfer window this summer. They added the likes of Tom Heaton, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo to their squad. They are currently looking to tie down Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba to the club for a longer future.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has these midfielders in his long-term plans. Pogba has less than a year on his contract and the Red Devils are scrapping to get a new deal done as soon as possible.
Manchester United have been scouting potential midfielders this season. They have also been heavily linked with West Ham star Declan Rice. They saw another transfer target, French wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga, move to Real Madrid late in the summer window, while Goretzka has also been on the club’s radar.

Ole currently relies on Pogba, Fred, and Nemanja Matic in the centre of the field. Donny van de Beek has also urged the manager to consider himself in a deeper midfield role too. Scott McTominay is recovering from a groin injury. This may keep the 24-year-old out of contention for some time.
A more defensive-minded midfielder has been on Manchester United’s transfer wishlist for some time now. That is an area where the club would like to make reinforcements. As for Goretzka, though, it seems like the 26-year-old will be staying put at Bayern Munich.
