Manchester United ready to join the battle for RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo
According to Marca (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United are set to enter the race for RB Leipzig’s Spanish international Dani Olmo.
The 23-year-old joined the Bundesliga side last year and has turned heads with his performances. The likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Bayern Munich have all shown interest and could throw a spanner in United’s chances of signing him.
Leipzig are ready to sell the player should a suitable offer come in during the January transfer window. Valued at £60million, United will need to shell out the cash if they are serious about landing him.
According to the report, Barcelona made a £50m bid for the player on summer deadline day but were spurned in their approach. With substantial time left on his current deal, Leipzig hold the upper hand when it comes to negotiations.
The biggest challenge to United could come from Barcelona. Olmo was in the Catalans’ youth ranks from 2007-2014 and appears keen on a return to the Nou Camp.
A versatile player who can fulfil numerous roles in the attack, Olmo is steadily establishing himself as a player to watch out for. At 23, he appears ready to take the next step in his development.
Olmo’s addition will hand United an alternative to Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 role. The Portuguese sensation is an automatic starter when fit but is arguably overburdened due to the lack of a suitable backup.
It remains to be seen if Olmo will settle to play as a player in the rotation. Barcelona are currently in a state of rebuild and are seeking a new talisman following Lionel Messi’s exit. Olmo would certainly have a more prominent role to play at the Nou Camp should he end up there.

Bayern are another side who could have a serious shot at landing Olmo. The Bavarians plundered their rivals for not just manager Julian Nagelsmann but also Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer. Whether Olmo too will follow suit remains to be seen.
United’s path to landing the Spaniard is not easy. But it could be well worth it should he continue to develop as expected.
