Manchester United have been joined by Manchester City in the race to sign Declan Rice
According to The Sun, Manchester United have been joined by rivals Manchester City in the race to sign Declan Rice in 2022.
The 22-year-old has been immense for West Ham in the last couple of years after being promoted to the senior team in 2017. Last season alone, Rice racked up 35 appearances in all competitions, including featuring 32 times in the Premier League.
The defensive midfielder played a crucial role in the Hammers securing a 6th place finish last season, thereby securing European qualification.
His performances also warranted him a place in the England squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 as the youngster featured in nearly every game and helped the Three Lions till the final of the competition, where they bowed out to Italy.
Thus, there was a lot of interest in the midfielder this summer from several clubs, including Manchester United, but the East London club’s £100million valuation of the midfielder warded off most suitors. However, the Red Devils have not given up the chase for the 22-year-old just yet.
The Manchester-based club are eyeing a deal for the youngster next summer as they look to add to their star-studded squad. While the Old Trafford outfit would be hoping to get a deal over the line for the Englishman, they will now face competition from rivals Manchester City.

The Etihad outfit have been ‘monitoring’ the 22-year-old’s progress since he made it into the first team of the London club and would be interested in making a move for the midfielder as Fernandinho is ‘unlikely’ to remain at City beyond this season.
Rice is already said to have rejected two new contract extension deals at West Ham, leaving his future up in the air. Thus, it remains to be seen where the Englishman will be playing his football next season. United, however, will be hoping to pip their rivals in the race to sign the youngster.
