Sir Alex Ferguson congratulates former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho ahead of his 1000th game as a manager
According to the LMA website (h/t Manchester Evening News), legendary Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has congratulated Jose Mourinho ahead of the 1000th game in his managerial career.
The Portuguese maestro is one of the best managers of his generation and was in charge of Manchester United from May 2016 to December 2018. It was under him that the Red Devils last won a major trophy – the 2017 Europa League.
Nowe in charge of Italian giants AS Roma, Mourinho will lead out his side against Sassuolo for the landmark fixture. The Romans have won both their games so far and will look to keep the run going.
Ferguson has hailed Mourino’s achievements in sport and believes it will be a proud day for the Portuguese and his family. He will now join a select group of elite managers in the League Managers Association’s Hall of Fame 1000 club.
“Congratulations and welcome to the Hall of Fame 1000 Club, Jose. Reaching 1000 matches as a manager will be such a proud day for both Jose and his family and rightly so.”
Mourinho has managed some of the biggest clubs in the world during his pomp. Some of them include Real Madrid, Chelsea (twice), Manchester United, Inter Milan and Porto among others. Apart from certain exceptions, he has won trophies wherever he has managed at. Ferguson has gone on to underline this success.
“To reach this landmark as a manager is an outstanding accomplishment for Jose, particularly whilst excelling and winning titles in four European leagues and of course winning two Champions League trophies along the way.”
Ferguson goes on to add that Mourinho is without a doubt one of the modern greats in management. While his stint at Old Trafford may not have gone off as expected, his record speaks for itself.
“Jose’s achievements will always ensure that he is acknowledged as one of the managerial greats.”

Mourinho was in charge at Old Trafford for 144 games, winning 84 of them and losing just 29. United won the League Cup and the Europa League under his guidance.
