Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney full of praise of Red Devils loanee Tahith Chong
According to Birmingham Live, Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney is left impressed by Red Devils loanee Tahith Chong.
The young Dutchman joined Championship side Birmingham City on loan in the summer and has so far taken his opportunities well. Chong has so far made four appearances for the club, making two assists.
Rooney who is in charge of Derby County will go up against Chong’s Birmingham on Friday night. The Englishman is well aware of the threat the young United star poses and has given a positive appraisal of him ahead of the match.
“He’s a good player.”
Chong featured for United against Derby in their pre-season friendly last month. The Dutchman scored on the night and Rooney is unlikely to have forgotten it.
“Obviously, he’s a very talented player, he played against us in the preseason and yeah, he’s an impact player, he has good moments in the game.”
Derby, for their part, are struggling this season and are currently in the 15th spot in the Championship. They have won just one game so far out of five and could do with three points against Birmingham.
Rooney appears to have earmarked Chong as Birmingham’s top threat. The Derby boss’s comments appear at the 21-year-old set to be given special attention on the night.
“We’ll have to be wary of him and make sure we’re on our toes and we’re defending well against him because if we give him time and space, then he’s a player who can really hurt you.”
Much was expected of Chong at United but he has so far failed to make much of an impact. Whether a successful spell at St. Andrew’s will rekindle his future at Old Trafford remains to be seen.
