Manchester United icon Paul Ince believes the club are not title contenders yet

Manchester United legend Paul Ince points out missing piece in the club’s near-perfect squad

According to an interview done on the PA News Agency (h/t Tribal Football), Manchester United legend Paul Ince does not feel that the club can challenge for titles even with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red Devils, who made astute additions to their squad this summer in the form of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, won the lottery when they signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.

Thus, the Old Trafford outfit have one of the deepest squads in the Premier League with options galore in most areas. However, former Manchester United player Paul Ince does not feel that the Red Devils can attain glory this season.

The United legend told PA News Agency (h/t Tribal Football):

“Even with Ronnie I still think United are a bit behind City and Chelsea, but they are a lot closer than they would have been”.

Ince went on to point out the area the club have not strengthened in this summer.

“The midfield is an area that’s not really been touched…(Jadon) Sancho is going to be a top player, but surely the priority should have been to get a top-class midfielder. I don’t think we’ve got that”.

Although United do possess the likes of Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek, Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, Fred, and Nemanja Matic, they could have done with another quality midfielder in their ranks. McTominay has been recently sidelined with an injury, while Van de Beek has failed to feature consistently under Solskjaer.

The club were linked with the likes of Eduardo Camavinga, Saul Niguez, Aurelien Tchouameni over the course of the season, but none materialized. Thus, only time will tell whether United’s existing lot of midfielders can bring home some silverware this season.
