Manchester United not willing to let go of Edinson Cavani & Anthony Martial on deadline day

According to Laurie Whitehall of The Athletic (h/t Caught Offside), Manchester United are not ready to let Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial leave the club on the summer transfer deadline day.

The duo has been linked with the move away from the club this month, but the Old Trafford outfit want the pair to stay and fight for a spot in the squad.

Cavani, who signed a contract extension with the Red Devils at the end of last season, is yet to start a game for the club this season as he returned late from his holiday. The Uruguayan is not going to leave on international duty during this break as the Premier League clubs have not allowed those players to travel who are on the ‘red list’.

The 34-year-old was linked with a move to Barcelona earlier this week, according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Caught Offside). However, the Manchester-based club are going to keep the Uruguayan at the club beyond the summer, despite the fact that they signed another centre-forward in Cristiano Ronaldo.

Anthony Martial, on the other hand, was said to be on his offered to PSG today as super-agent Jorge Mendes tried to broker a deal for the Frenchman.

However, United need quality depth in the frontline, and given that Daniel James has already left the club, Martial could prove to be a pivotal asset. The Red Devils are going to participate in four competitions this season, and thus, a deep squad is needed.
