Manchester United are unlikely to sign Kieran Trippier

According to the Manchester Evening News (h/t The Express), Manchester United are unlikely to sign Kieran Trippier this summer and plan to continue their season with Diogo Dalot.

The Red Devils, who have made astute signings this summer in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane, were keen on signing a right-back earlier this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was looking to providing some competition to Aaron wan-Bissaka in the right-back role and the club were targeting Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier for the same.

United may not make a move for former Tottenham full-back Trippier this summer.

However, the Spanish outfit and the Manchester-based club failed to agree on a valuation for the player as Atletico wanted at least £28million for the Englishman’s services this summer.

While that was the case, Diogo Dalot apparently did enough in pre-season to convince Solskjaer that he is an able back-up to Wan-Bissaka and can deputize on either side. Dalot was on loan at AC Milan last season, and the Portuguese managed to rack up 33 appearances in all competitions and had a solid year at the San Siro.

However, a late move from Dortmund in the last week created doubts regarding if the 22-year-old will stay at United this summer or not. The German outfit were considering a loan deal for the player which would then see the Red Devils enter the race again for Trippier.

More Manchester United News:

Although that might have been the case, the Old Trafford outfit have seemingly decided against it and will continue with Dalot, rendering Trippier’s move to Manchester ‘unlikely’. Moreover, the Red Devils have very little time to complete the deal, and they could see how things turn out with Dalot this season before they make a firm decision.

Thus, with less than 2 days left until the end of the transfer window, United seem to have their squad completely ready to fight on all fronts this season.
