Transfer News: Manchester United suffer blow as Liverpool make their move for Yves Bissouma
According to the latest transfer news on the Express (h/t Football Talk), Liverpool are ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma.
The 24-year-old has been on the radar of Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal this summer, with the latter also having signed Ben White from Brighton in a big-money move.
However, Liverpool have now made an ‘official move’ to sign Bissouma. This would come as a huge blow to United, who have been keen on strengthening their midfield options this summer.
Although the Red Devils already possess the likes of Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Fred, and Bruno Fernandes, they could do certainly do with a midfielder like Bissouma.
The Mali international joined Brighton from Lille in 2018 and has been pivotal for the club staying in the Premier League since then. The midfielder featured 39 times for the Seagulls across all competitions last season, while he has already played in both the Premier League games for the club this season.
United could lose Paul Pogba to PSG this summer, and Bissouma could come in handy if that deal does go through. Additionally, Nemanja Matic’s contract will end in two years, and Bissouma could act as a long-term replacement in defensive midfield.

However, United would be hoping Liverpool fail to materialize a deal for the 24-year-old, who is said to be available for £40million, according to the Express (h/t Football Talk).
Thus, if United do plan on signing the Mali international this summer, they will have to move fast and jump ahead of their arch-rivals before the end of the transfer window i.e., 31st of August.
