Transfer News: Manchester United send scouts to watch Carlos Vinicius
According to transfer news from Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have sent scouts to watch SL Benfica’s Brazilian forward Carlos Vinicius in action.
Vinicius has had a bit of a journeyman career. Having spent time with Santos, Palmeiras and Anapolis in Brazil, he joined Portuguese outfit Real SC in 2017, before joining Napoli in Italy a year later. The centre-forward then had loan stints at Rio Ave FC and AS Monaco, before he signed for Benfica in 2019.

In his debut season with the Portuguese giants, the 26-year-old made quite the impression, bagging 24 goals and 13 assists in 47 games, prompting Tottenham to sign him on loan last term. However, the loan deal turned out to be a major dud as he struggled for game-time in England.
Indeed, Vinicius managed just 22 appearances for the Lilywhites and while he did score 10 goals, most of them came against lower-level opponents in cup ties and Europa League. With Spurs not taking up the option of signing him permanently, he is back at Benfica.
Now, it is being claimed that Manchester United have sent scouts to watch the 26-year-old Vinicius as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to add more depth to his attack. Apart from the Red Devils, the likes of Bayern Munich and Juventus are also watching the Brazilian. (h/t Manchester Evening News)

With Anthony Martial’s inconsistent ways and Edinson Cavani’s advancing age, another centre-forward wouldn’t be the worst idea, more so given Marcus Rashford is still on the sidelines. However, a move for someone like Vinicius who failed to make an impression in the Premier League last term makes little sense.
Instead, it would be better if Manchester United waited till the next summer to go after a bonafide superstar to replace Cavani, whose contract will be expiring at the end of the season.
