Manchester United reject Nemanja Matic – Aaron Ramsey swap proposal
Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Express), transfer expert Duncan Castles has claimed that Manchester United have turned down a swap proposal from Juventus that would have seen Nemanja Matic and Aaron Ramsey trade clubs.
Matic has been with Manchester United since 2017, having arrived from rivals, Chelsea. An important member of the team in the first few seasons, the 33-year-old has slowly been phased out of the starting lineup. Indeed, the giant Serb featured just 20 times in the Premier League last term.
As for Ramsey, he signed for Juventus in the summer of 2019 after his contract with Arsenal ran down. The Wales international has had to endure a difficult time in Italy, though, having found it hard to nail down a place in the lineup in Turin.
Manchester United have been on the lookout for a new central midfielder this summer and a number of names like Eduardo Camavinga of Rennes, Wolves’ Ruben Neves have been linked.
Now it has emerged that they were offered a shot at signing Ramsey from Juventus as well, in a deal which would have seen Matic move to Juventus. However, Castles confirmed that the offer was swiftly rejected by the Red Devils.
“Juventus have during the summer proposed a swap deal for Nemanja Matic which would have seen Aaron Ramsey going the other way for United. It was rejected by the Manchester club.”

Matic may not be playing as regularly as he did, but his experience and leadership still add value to this team. Trading him for a player whose injury record is nothing short of woeful would have been an imprudent move. Manchester United have done the right thing by turning down Juventus’ offer.
