PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino leaves door open for Paul Pogba swoop
Speaking after his team beat Brest 4-2 on Friday night (h/t Manchester Evening News), PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino refused to rule out a move for Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba this summer.
Pogba has entered the final year of his contract with the 20-time English champions. So far, there have been no indications that he will sign a new deal. As a result, he has been heavily linked with a move away, with Real Madrid, Juventus and PSG showing interest.
The French giants were said to be the front-runners but after they brought in Lionel Messi from Barcelona on a free transfer, rumours of a move for Pogba went cold. (h/t MEN)
Pochettino, however, has lit the fire again, insisting that things can happen late in the transfer window when asked about the prospect of Pogba joining PSG.
“The arrival of a midfielder like Pogba? We know that in football things can happen, situations turnaround. A club like PSG is always open to improving its workforce. A sector where we must strengthen as a priority for me? I won’t say it publicly. Never.
“I will tell (sporting director) Leonardo first, who will tell our president. If I say so, there will be an earthquake and problems.”
With his comments, Pochettino has thrown the door wide open for a potential swoop for Pogba before the transfer window slams shut in over a week.
