“I am ready”- 28-year-old striker takes sly dig at Man United after £98million move to PL rivals

Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku admits he had to leave Manchester United in order to get better

As quoted by The Mirror, Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku has admitted that he had to leave Manchester United in order to progress as a player.

The Belgian star spent just two seasons at United before moving on to Inter Milan. His time at the club saw him make 96 appearances scoring 42 goals and assisting 13 more. While his numbers are not bad at all, his time at Old Trafford has evoked mixed reactions.

The same cannot be said of Lukaku’s stint at the San Siro. He established himself as one of the best forwards in the league and was pivotal in their Serie A win last season.

Now back in the Premier League, Lukaku believes he is now a better player. He admits to having enjoyed his previous spell in England but deems his stint in Italy as pivotal.

“I loved every minute of it on and off the field, but the experiences in Italy made me more complete as a player.”

The numbers certainly back up the 28-year-old’s claim. A return of 64 goals and 16 assists in 95 performances is nothing to scorn at. He was the on fire in the 2020/21 campaign and could have won the golden boot had it not been for the otherworldly Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Belgian drew unnecessary flak from United fans.

The Premier League has changed since Lukaku was last in it but the Belgian ace reckons he is up for the challenge. One of the best strikers in world football today, the 28-year-old is a physically dominant player who can hold his own.

“Watching the Premier League over the last few years, the players have got better, the teams have got better and I am ready for the challenge.”

Lukaku looks set to make his second debut for Chelsea this weekend against Arsenal. It represents an excellent matchup for him to show just how he has evolved at Inter.

Calling him a flop at United would be an injustice to his contributions. The Belgian was just at the wrong club at the wrong time.

Now back at Chelsea for a club-record fee of £98million, it remains to be seen if he will silence the United fans who failed to rate him in the past. Hopefully, it will not come back to bite us.
