Ian Wright believes Manchester United ace Mason Greenwood will be a superstar

Speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show (h/t The Metro), Arsenal and Premier League legend, Ian Wright, has high hopes for Manchester United starlet Mason Greenwood.

The youngster has emerged as a first-team player over the last two years and looks set to play a major role for the club in the years to come. Greenwood led the line for our season opener against Leeds United and earned rave reviews for his performances.

Wright has now joined the bandwagon and has declared the youngster to be on his way to attaining superstardom. He believes the player’s numbers speak for themselves.

“When you look at what Mason is doing there, the numbers are amazing.”

Capable of playing anywhere along the frontline, Greenwood has already notched up 30 goals and 10 assists in 106 appearances for United. His spectacular finish against Aston Villa last season eclipsed the club record for most goals as a teenager, previously held by Wayne Rooney.

In fact, only four players, namely Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Nicolas Anelka and Rooney have scored more goals as a teenager in the Premier League. Wright believes the player has only shown a sign of things to come and will keep getting better with time.

“He’s putting in performances and getting numbers. If that’s a sign of things to come from him, it’s frightening to think what he will end up doing because he’s done a lot already.”

Better days to come!

Still just 19, Greenwood has his best years ahead of him and will continue to keep improving. There is no reason why he cannot break multiple club and Premier League records should he continue to perform as he has.

“He just seems ready now. I feel that in not long he’s going to be blasting past those other guy’s numbers.”

Wright for his part believes it is just a matter of time before that happens. Greenwood has all the potential to become a world-beater and it is good to see him finally step up and take up that mantle.

United legend Rio Ferdinand had earlier compared Greenwood to Wayne Rooney. The now Derby County manager is the club’s record goalscorer with an impressive tally of 253 goals in all competitions.

As things stand, Greenwood is just 223 goals off that mark with at least a decade to go in his career. While we would n to want to jinx it, the youngster is certainly going in the right direction.
