Paul Pogba could leave Manchester United for free next summer
According to the Daily Mail, Paul Pogba is likely to leave Manchester United on a free transfer next summer after having seen his hopes of joining PSG this year diminish.
The Frenchman, who is now in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, was poised to move to Paris this summer after his agent Mino Raiola held talks with PSG, who were considering offering United £40million for the midfielder.
However, PSG prioritized the signing of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi instead. And they might not have the funds anymore to sign the French midfielder.
The French club have, however, not given up the chase to sign Pogba as they are keeping an eye on his situation for a move next summer.
Pogba’s intention to leave United has been clear after he refused a contract extension, indicating that he could depart on a free transfer in 2022 – ten years after he left the club for Juventus, for which the Old Trafford outfit were paid just £800,000. in compensation.
Moreover, given that he is in the final year of his contract, Pogba could sign a pre-contract with any club outside the country in January over a free transfer next season. Letting a player of his quality leave on a free would hurt United, who paid a then world-record fee of £89million to re-sign him from Juventus in 2016.
