Graeme Souness tells Manchester United the signing that will win them the Premier League title

Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho are not enough for Manchester United to win the Premier League title, according to an article by former Liverpool captain Graeme Souness in the Sunday Times (h/t Evening Standard).

The Red Devils, who have completed the £73million signing of Jadon Sancho and the soon to be confirmed £34million transfer of Raphael Varane, still need one more signing to compete for the biggest titles this season, according to Liverpool legend Graeme Souness. He wrote in the Sunday Times (h/t Evening Standard):

“If United have finished their transfer business with the signings of Jadon Sancho for £73 million from Borussia Dortmund and Raphaël Varane for an initial £34 million from Real Madrid, then that is not enough investment for them to win the trophies this season that a club of their magnitude should be aiming for: the Premier League and Champions League.

“The signing required to catapult them into title-winning contention with Manchester City and Chelsea is a striker who guarantees 30 goals a season”.

While it remains to be seen whether Manchester United do sign a centre-forward this season, the Red Devils are interested in signing a central midfielder and a full-back before the transfer window ends.

Although United have been linked with Erling Haaland this summer, the Norwegian’s £150million price tag means that it is nearly impossible to complete a deal for the player this summer. United’s rivals to the title in the form of Manchester City and Chelsea have strengthened to a certain extent in the forward area or are at least planning to do so.

Manchester City have signed Jack Grealish and are still in the hunt for Harry Kane, while Chelsea are poised to complete the signing of former United striker Romelu Lukaku, who is closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge from Inter Milan.

Although United already have the likes of Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, and Marcus Rashford in the forward roles, it remains to be seen whether they will be enough to compete for the biggest titles next season.
