Transfer News: Ethan Laird set to leave Manchester United to join Swansea City on loan
As per a report by Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News), Swansea City have agreed on a deal with Manchester United to sign Ethan Laird in a loan deal.
The 20-year-old full-back is looking set to spend the new season on loan at the Championship side. He spent the last season at the MK Stadium where he impressed for MK Dons and caught the eye of Russell Martin, the new Swans boss.
Laird is one of the brightest prospects from United’s youth academy and has already appeared for the senior side in the UEFA Europa League. He is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Red Devils.
This would come as a step up for Laird considering he was playing in League One earlier this year. And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken highly of him in the past.
Laird all set for Wales
Speaking ahead of a Europa League tie in October 2019 (h/t Metro), the Norwegian manager described that Laird has what it takes to be a quality full-back at the club.
“He’s a full-back in the mould that we want: he’s physical, he’s quick, he’s strong, technical as well driving forward with it. So we thought it was the time for him now to get this experience and we believe he can kick on in his career.”
Hopefully, Laird can live up to expectations at Old Trafford and present himself as a viable option for the first team in the future. Currently, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has no real competition in that spot.

While Laird still has a long way to go, he can take another step forward in his journey if he ends up joining Swansea and leaving an impression at the Liberty Stadium.
