Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on Dean Henderson’s fitness post Covid-19 scare

According to the Manchester Evening News, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson after Covid-19 scare.

Henderson, who tested positive for Covid-19 following his return to training on July 13, has missed the entirety of United’s pre-season programme this campaign. While Henderson has since tested negative, he is trying to regain fitness, according to Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. (h/t Manchester Evening News)

“Dean was positive early on. He’s negative in his testing but he has not felt as energised and sharp as he normally has done, so he still feels fatigued and is feeling the after-effects”.

However, Solskjaer reiterated that there is no set return date for the goalkeeper.

“You never know. You’ve seen so many effects of this virus, he’s still got a few days to rest and then we’ll check up on him.”

Henderson was lined up to start the season, but David de Gea is expected to start in goal against Leeds United for their 2021/22 Premier League season opener next week. Moreover, given Henderson’s fitness, summer signing Tom Heaton might be on the bench for the game against the Whites.

Henderson played second fiddle to David de Gea for the most part of last season as the English international only managed 13 Premier League appearances. Henderson was a huge part of Sheffield United’s rigid backline in the 2019/20 season, as the United loanee conceded only 39 goals, which led to the Red Devils retaining the player’s services last season.

The English international would be hoping to play more this season once he is back to full fitness while Solskjaer would also want the player back as soon as possible as United look to compete on all fronts this campaign.
