Carlton Palmer believes Manchester United will not miss much should they sell Daniel James this summer
According to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News), Carlton Palmer has claimed that Manchester United will not regret parting ways with Welsh winger Daniel James this summer.
The 23-year-old was one of Solskjaer’s first signings as United boss and enjoyed a brilliant start to his career at Old Trafford. He was, however, unable to keep the run going and has since blown hot and cold. Blessed with pace, the Welshman has the ability to be a major threat on the break. However, his lack of consistency continues to stick out like a sore thumb.
With Jadon Sancho now at the club, James has yet another obstacle in his path to the United first team. It is difficult to see Sancho not cut into James’ game time this season. It would be a bitter pill to swallow for the Welsh international who was amongst his country’s stars at the Euros
While Marcus Rashford’s injury has opened an avenue for James to showcase his talent, Palmer believes it will matter for little should United decide to sell him. Given the riches that Solskjaer now commands, the 23-year-old is unlikely to be missed.
“I don’t think it’s a problem for him [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer] to let him [Dan James] go. He’s made a lot of signings this summer, so he’s been pushed down the pecking order.”
James is certainly a player the Red Devils could dispense with to reinforce their transfer kitty. Premier League duo Leicester City and Leeds United are both interested in him and could swoop for his services. The Welshman certainly has a better chance of playing regularly at the King Power Stadium or Elland Road.
To add to James’ woes, United star Jesse Lingard is also determined to stay put and fight for his place at the Theatre of Dreams. The Englishman impressed while on loan at West Ham United and returned to Old Trafford, a player reborn.
He is, if anything, another brick in the wall that is keeping James from gaining regular playtime. The Welshman certainly has the potential to be a devastating player under the right manager. Precious little of that has, however, been glimpsed at United.

It is unlikely that James would displace any of the established starters any time soon. Sitting on the sidelines is unlikely to do anyone good and United would be well advised to part ways with the Welshman this summer.
