Jesse Lingard missed Manchester United vs Everton after testing positive for Covid-19
In an official statement on the club’s website, Manchester United announced that Jesse Lingard has returned a positive test for Covid-19.
United took on Everton in their penultimate pre-season friendly, but the English midfielder missed the game due to Covid. He will now isolate according to the Government and Premier League regulations.
According to Metro, the guidelines require a 10-day isolation period. This effectively rules him out for the Premier League opener against Leeds United next weekend.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was understandably gutted after hearing the news but remained positive about his comeback. Lingard was impressive in United’s three friendly outings before their 4-0 win against Everton.

“Jesse’s done really well in pre-season but he’ll come back sharp. I don’t think it’s too bad.”
The Man United youth academy graduate also took to his social media account to share his thoughts on the matter. Lingard mentioned that he was feeling fine and is looking forward to reuniting with his teammates.
“Really gutted to have tested positive after a good pre season, luckily I feel fine and will follow the guidelines and be back with the boys on pitch very soon! Thank you for your support [red heart emoji]”
Lingard, who was at West Ham United for the second half of last season, can be an important squad player in the new season. If he stays, he can be a good backup for Bruno Fernandes and can even vie for minutes down the wings.
