Everton urged to sign Manchester United star Anthony Martial on loan
Speaking to Goodison News (h/t Manchester Evening News), Everton legend Kevin Campbell believes the club should look to bring in Manchester United star Anthony Martial on loan this summer.
The French international is coming off a rather forgettable season that saw him struggle for form and fitness. Martial looked to have turned a corner during the 2019/20 season where he was the club’s top scorer and also won the Players’ Player of the Year award.
However, just seven goals in 36 appearances last season brought him back to earth before his season was cut short by an injury. To add salt to the wounds, Martial also ended up missing this summer’s European Championship. With Jadon Sancho now finally a Red Devil, Martial is facing a pivotal season that could decide his fate at Old Trafford.
According to the report, Campbell has urged the Toffees to land the United ace this summer in a loan deal. The Merseysiders are embarking upon a fresh start under Rafael Benitez and will be keen to build upon the promise they showed last season.
“There could be a loan worked out.”
The Everton legend believes that Martial can be an asset to the club as long as he keeps playing regularly. A stellar player on his day, the Frenchman is a handful to contain when in form. However, his inconsistency puts a dampener on what should have been a special career.
“When he fancies it, he’s hard to stop – he’s electric.”
A beaten path
A number of players have moved from United to Everton in the last few years. The likes of Tim Howard and Phil Neville went on to enjoy a second wind in their sails with the Toffees on Merseyside. Whether a change of scenery is what Martial needs to recapture his form remains to be seen.
The Frenchman started last season as United’s first-choice striker. He has since been usurped by the impressive Edinson Cavani, who recently penned a one-year contract extension. The addition of Jadon Sancho could see United deploy Mason Greenwood centrally, adding another obstacle in Martial’s path.
At 25, Martial still has time on his side to turn around his career. Whether he will rise to the challenge at United or seek a move elsewhere is something only time can tell.

While Martial could be considered expendable, United will also need to take into account Marcus Rashford’s condition before making a decision. The English international is set to undergo shoulder surgery and could be on the sidelines for the next two months. With him absent, Martial could be given a window to showcase his abilities. United would be well advised to keep him on a least until the January transfer window.
