Daniel James sets challenge for Manchester United for Everton pre-season fixture

Speaking to the club’s official website, Manchester United winger Daniel James has issued a challenge to the team to get in the best possible shape ahead of the new season.

Manchester United are currently away on a pre-season training camp in Scotland. The Red Devils begin the 2021/22 season with a game against arch-rivals Leeds United in a little over a week.

Prior to that, they will have another chance to get into their rhythm and fine-tune things when the Red Devils face Everton in a friendly encounter at Old Trafford on Saturday. And James has tipped it as the toughest test of the pre-season, urging his teammates to make the best use of it to prepare for what comes next.

“It’s a big game against Everton, it’s the toughest opposition we’ll come up against in pre-season. It’s a great tester going into the game the week after against Leeds but yeah, it’s one that we’re looking forward to. The season comes around so quick, everyone is going to be as fit as they can be.”

A slow start to the season was Manchester United’s undoing last time out as they failed to catch up to neighbours Manchester City, who eventually went on to win the Premier League title.

A similar story needs to be avoided this time out, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side needing to hit the ground running if they are to fulfil their trophy ambitions. A loss to QPR and the draw against Brentford have preceded the Everton game. And even though results don’t matter in pre-season a win on Saturday would give the team some momentum.
