Manchester United target Ruben Neves compared to club legend Paul Scholes
Speaking on the Talk of the Devils Podcast (h/t Express), former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has compared transfer target Ruben Neves to club legend Paul Scholes.
Wolves’ midfielder Ruben Neves has been linked with a move to Manchester United quite a bit this summer. With there being question marks over the future of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic’s age catching up to him, it would make sense for the Red Devils to bring in a new central midfielder.
And Neves, who has proven himself for three years in the Premier League and is still just 24 years old has the potential to be a top addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad. And now, Parker has gone on to compare the Portuguese international to United legend Scholes. (h/t Express)
“Has he reached his potential yet? I don’t think he has. He was a standout player for Wolves but not consistent week in, week out. “When you talk about someone striking the ball, there’s only one player I can remember doing that, and that’s Paul Scholes. If he was playing for a Manchester United with the quality around him, you will see his game improve… players come to United and lift another level.
“It depends the path United want to take. Do they want a big name with a good marketing value or a big name who’s a big footballer? If it’s the latter, then Neves is a good player to go and get. And I think that’s the path they need to go down.”

One of the best midfielders to grace the game, Scholes is a bonafide legend at United. One of the pillars of the club’s success under Sir Alex Ferguson, the former England international enjoyed an illustrious career with the Red Devils.
Neves, if signed by United, would be a hit if he even went on to enjoy half the success that Scholes said. That being said, he has the potential to be a quality addition for the Red Devils.
