Manchester United duo Nemanja Matic and Alex Telles not targeted by Mourinho

According to reputed journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United duo Nemanja Matic and Alex Telles are not transfer targets for Jose Mourinho at AS Roma.

Matic is a player that Mourinho knows like the back of his hand, having worked with him at Chelsea before signing him at Manchester United in 2017. The Serbian midfielder was a mainstay for the Red Devils under the Portuguese tactician. So, when he took up the job at AS Roma this summer, speculations about a reunion started to resurface. Another Manchester United player, Alex Telles, was also linked with a move to the Serie A giants. This happened after the Giallorossi’s primary left-back, Leonardo Spinazzola, picked up a long-term injury at the UEFA Euro 2020, leading Mourinho to scout for a replacement. (h/t Daily Star)

Romano, though, has now debunked those speculations, insisting that neither Matic nor Telles are not on the transfer wishlist of Mourinho at Roma.

Matic’s importance within the squad has reduced quite a bit over the past season, as he has been gradually phased out of the starting XI. The veteran Serbian, though, still has plenty of value, given his experience and know-how, which is sure to come in handy for a relatively young Manchester United side.

As for Telles, the Brazilian did well in his debut season last time out, with his arrival also having the desired impact on Luke Shaw’s game, who upped the ante. Currently out with an injury, the former Inter Milan left-back remains a valuable part of the side.
