Player News: Manchester United star Alex Telles ruled out of action until September

Speaking to the club’s official website, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Alex Telles will not be available for selection until September.

The Brazilian left-back joined the club from Porto last summer. Despite impressing, he has had to play second-fiddle to Luke Shaw who is enjoying a resurgence in form. Any chance of Telles gaining an upper hand on his rival is now up in smoke with him suffering an injury in pre-season.

Telles picked up an ankle injury last week forcing Solskjaer to admit that he could be out of action for a few weeks. It has now been revealed that the Brazilian will miss out first three Premier League games of the season.

“Unfortunately, it’s worse news on Alex Telles than we hoped for.”

This will see Telles miss out on clashes against Leeds United, Southampton, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Solskjaer admits that the news is a shot in the arm and expects the player to sit out for the whole of August.

“His ankle injury is a little bit more severe than we hoped and he’ll be out for a little spell at least, the whole of August I would think.”

Telles scored in our pre-seasoner opener against Derby County and this injury has now come at a bad time. Hopefully, he will take it in his stride and come out stronger. An extremely reliable backup to have, he could have a major role to play for us this season.

The 28-year-old has also emerged as a target for former United boss Jose Mourinho. Now in charge of AS Roma, he is keen to reinforce his squad this summer. Whether the injury will throw the Italians off or whether they will press for a deal remains to be seen.

With Luke Shaw still on holiday following his heroics with England at the summer’s Euros, youngster Brandon Williams was given the nod to start at left-back at the weekend against Queens Park Rangers.

Diogo Dalot can be used as a backup for Shaw should the need arise in August. Whether the young Portuguese starlet can make use of the opportunity to stake his claim for a future at the club remains to be seen.
