Transfer News: Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly could be on the move amid Manchester United interest

Speaking in an interview via Football Italia (h/t Metro), Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti admitted that Manchester United transfer target Kalidou Koulibaly is on the market for sale this summer.

The Italian boss was full of praise for the 30-year-old centre-back. While he admitted Koulibaly was on the market, he mentioned that he would prefer it if the former Metz defender stays in Naples for the season ahead.

“I want to chain myself for all the players, as I’ve already said that I will be very happy if the squad remains as it is. I only named Koulibaly because he’s on the market, but I’d like him to stay. I have never worked with anyone so good, not just as a player, but also as a man.”

Koulibaly has been linked with Manchester City, Liverpool, and Man United despite the Red Devils’ interest in Real Madrid star, Raphael Varane. They might even be considering him as an alternative to the Frenchman.

Varane or Koulibaly?

That is according to a report by Goal (h/t Metro), which states that United could consider an offer in the region of £26million for the Senegal international to test Napoli’s resolve in case Varane does not arrive.

It’s good for the fans to see the club get linked with two quality defenders. After already capturing a top talent in Jadon Sancho, it makes sense for them to find a reliable partner for Harry Maguire now.

Manchester United are also interested in signing Raphael Varane.
Varane is United’s top defensive target

The Englishman has become a mainstay in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s line-up since his move from Leicester City. A defender like Varane or Koulibaly by his side can make United all the more solid in defence.
