Transfer News: Diogo Dalot wants to leave Manchester United for AC Milan
According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Mirror), Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot is pushing for a transfer move to AC Milan this season.
The report mentions that he is ‘eager’ to join the Italian giants on a permanent basis. He was at San Siro last season on a loan spell from United and saw considerable playing time for them.
In fact, he played more league games for Milan than he did in the entirety of his stay at Old Trafford. He has failed to hold down a starting position at Manchester United since his move from FC Porto in 2018.
Both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice full-backs on either flank. And as long as the two are at United, it would be hard for Dalot to break into the first-team set-up.
Dalot to leave?
Milan are also said to be bracing themselves for a bid from PSG for Theo Hernandez, and could hence be forced into the transfer market to find a replacement. (h/t Mirror)
Dalot, as an individual, would undoubtedly want more playing time. But if United can get him to stay, they can use him as a backup on either wing, especially for Wan-Bissaka on the right.
The Red Devils don’t possess a serious senior right-back to challenge the Englishman down the right-hand side. If the Portuguese full-back stays at Old Trafford, he could potentially assume that role.

But that depends on if the club’s board sanctions his sale to any suitor this summer. In case they do, fans would hope they can bring a new face down that side, perhaps someone like Kieran Trippier, with whom United have been linked.
