Transfer News: Anthony Martial up for sale as Manchester United sign Jadon Sancho
According to Daily Star (h/t Express), Anthony Martial is ‘surplus to requirements’ at Manchester United after the club announced the arrival of Jadon Sancho.
The French forward failed to pin down a regular spot in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team last season as he failed to impress with his goal-scoring return. And United are now attempting to offload him ‘as soon as possible’ to recoup the money they spent on Sancho.
The Red Devils have placed a £50million price tag on Martial, something which his suitors are finding hard to deal with. Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Everton, and West Ham United are all linked with the former AS Monaco forward.
Daniel Levy, in particular, is believed to be unwilling to meet the £250,000-a-week salary demand from Martial’s camp and has no desire to make him one of the club’s top earners.
PL teams after Martial
If any club even remotely meets United’s valuation, it would mean that United won’t make a big loss on the £58million fee that they agreed to pay AS Monaco back in 2015.
And it would also mean recovering a significant amount of the £72.9million fee they’ve agreed to pay Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho. The 21-year-old English winger should be ahead of Martial in United’s hierarchy down the right flank.
However, it would be risky to offload the French international without signing a new striker. Edinson Cavani is not getting any younger at 34 and Marcus Rashford has occupied the left flank in recent times.

A potential solution to that issue could be promoting one of Rashford or Mason Greenwood to be United’s No.9 while slowly incorporating the young Anthony Elanga into the first-team picture.
