Transfer News: Manchester United target Leon Goretzka not keen to leave Bayern Munich
According to transfer news from Goal, Manchester United have been handed a blow in their pursuit of Bayern Munich and Germany star Leon Goretzka.
The midfielder has just under a year left on his current deal at the Allianz Arena. With negotiations over a new deal having hit a stumbling block, the Red Devils were looking to take advantage of the situation.
With us potentially set to lose Paul Pogba this summer, it is imperative that we bring in a top-quality midfielder to replace him. Pogba and Bruno Fernandes are really our only world-class midfielders and their absence on the field is noticeable when it occurs. Even if Pogba does end up staying, it is key that we go on to add more quality in the middle of the park.
As things stand, both Goretzka and Bayern are at odds regarding the player’s salary demands. This has also attracted the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid. Despite the standoff, Goretzka is not keen to leave Bayern and is not considering any offers from elsewhere.
According to the report, the 26-year-old has also informed Bayern’s holy trinity of his decision. The trio of CEO Oliver Kahn, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, and president Herbert Hainer are aware that the player wants to remain at the club despite the recent speculation.
Goretzka is seeking a significant pay rise that will net him €20m per season. It is, however, much more than the €10-12m-a-year that Bayern are prepared to offer. According to the Express, United are willing to meet Goretzka’s wage demands in an effort to sign him on a free next summer.
Bayern now have a year to come up with an offer that satisfies the player. It remains to be seen if any lack of movement from the club’s end will tip the scales in United’s favour. Currently set to enter his prime, Goretzka is a player the Red Devils will do well to land.
