Manchester United in advanced negotiations with Saul Niguez’s agent
According to transfer news from Express, Manchester United are in advanced negotiations over a deal for Saul Niguez. While it was understood that Saul could head to Barcelona in a swap deal, United have now put themselves back in contention.
There’s a good deal of optimism around Manchester United currently. The club have signed Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho’s arrival is imminent. There is also a deal for Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier in the works, which could also be finalised soon (h/t Express).
Manchester United’s interest in Saul is nothing new. Over the last few years, he has established himself as an important part of Diego Simeone’s midfield at Atletico. Despite Atletico lifting the La Liga title last season, Saul did not play a very big part in that.
Hence, links to Manchester United have resurfaced. Barcelona had also taken an interest in the 26-year-old. They were willing to offer Antoine Griezmann in a swap deal with Atletico. However, it would seem United have made their case known by entering into advanced negotiations with Saul’s agent. That has put United as the favourites for this deal.

United will have their task cut out in going after the Spanish midfielder. Barcelona’s offer is definitely something to consider for Atletico despite United being in advanced negotiations. A versatile midfielder, Saul can be a valuable addition to United, especially if Pogba departs the club. However, this transfer might have to wait for a while, especially with other possible deals in the works.
