Transfer News: Manchester United overtake Chelsea in pursuit for Liverpool starlet Ethan Ennis

According to an exclusive report by Stretty News (h/t Liverpool Echo), Manchester United are in pole position to sign Chelsea transfer target and Liverpool teenager, Ethan Ennis.

The report mentions that United have swooped in to prevent the starlet from moving to London. Despite being 16, he is one of the highly-rated youngsters in Liverpool’s U-18 team.

He was a part of the Reds’ U18 side that reached the FA Youth Cup final but were beaten by Aston Villa. He plays in midfield and also featured for Marc-Bridge Wilkinson’s side on several occasions in the U-18 Premier League.

This would be a big statement from United’s youth set-up considering the player would be arriving from a rival club. But that is only if any deal for the youngster goes through.

United want Ennis

United’s U-18 side, which is probably where the Englishman would play, lost the league title by just one point last season. City won the North title by 1 point while Liverpool were third, 8 points behind the Red Devils.

It was a big improvement from previous seasons and Neil Ryan’s side looked like real title contenders throughout the season. Ennis, if brought to Leigh Sports Village, would be playing alongside some highly-rated United youngsters.

Joe Hugill, Alejandro Garnacho, Isak Hansen, and Willy Kambwala are just some of the teenage prospects looking to make themselves a regular in the reserve squad.

United’s academy isn’t alien to producing top quality talents. While the Class of ’92 is well known, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side itself has two of the brightest English prospects in Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

It remains to be seen if Ennis joins us and touches those levels. If he does, the fact that he would be an ex-Red is what would make it sweeter for United fans.
