Transfer News: Manchester United want to sell Alex Telles in a permanent deal with AS Roma linked
According to a report by Sky Sports Italia (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United have turned down a loan approach from AS Roma for Alex Telles.
Jose Mourinho, a former United manager, is I Giallorossi‘s new manager and has already signed Rui Patricio from the Premier League. The Portuguese manager wants to make Telles his second addition, but the deal would be complicated.
Roma saw influential left-midfielder, Leonardo Spinazzola, suffer an injury during his UEFA Euro 2020 journey with Italy. And the Italian club want United’s 28-year-old left-back to be his temporary replacement. (h/t The Daily Star)
However, United have rebuffed a loan approach from the Serie A side, only because they want to sell the defender permanently. That comes as harsh news for the Brazilian, who has only been at United for a season.
Telles to be sold?
Telles was signed from FC Porto last summer for a fee that could rise to €17million. But Luke Shaw’s resurgence meant that he was largely relegated to the bench, and with Shaw’s impeccable Euros showing, things don’t look good for Telles.
United would still need a left-back in case their English full-back is unavailable for selection. The 26-year-old has had injury issues in the past and a repeat of that could leave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer without any quality backup.
While it might be harsh for Telles to be on United’s bench so often, it is something that he would have known already. Shaw is no pushover and his performances for England this summer proved that.

Depth is important for the club in each position and the left-back line-up is more in the ‘make-shift’ category if we look beyond Shaw and Telles.
