Transfer News: Manchester United keep Ruben Neves as Rice alternative
According to transfer news from Daily Star, Manchester United have kept Ruben Neves as an alternative to Declan Rice. The West Ham star could be too expensive for United to go after and hence, Neves has been lined up as a cheaper option.
Manchester United are looking for a new defensive midfielder. Declan Rice is a name that appeals to United but he will cost them a pretty penny. A star name at West Ham already, Rice has added to his reputation with a solid EURO 2020 campaign for England.
Due to that, United are said to be looking at cheaper alternatives such as Ruben Neves. The Portuguese midfielder is one of the best young midfielders in the league. A seasoned midfielder too, the 24-year-old is at the right point in his career to take the next step. He is yet to reach his prime and United could have him for the best years of his career.
It would be rather difficult to compare Rice with Neves since both players serve different functions. While the former will add solidity to our midfield, the latter will offer more going forward. In that case, Neves can be a better addition to the side given how United often lack the creativity to crack open certain teams.

It’s not to say that prising away Neves will be any easier. But the fact is that he won’t cost United an arm and a leg. Neves is just two years older than Rice but has enough experience in the English game to be considered by United as a viable alternative.
