Tottenham moving ahead in the race for Manchester United target Cristian Romero

According to transfer news from SportWitness, Tottenham are moving ahead in the race for Manchester United target Cristian Romero. The Copa America winner with Argentina is the subject of interest from a host of clubs. But it seems as if Tottenham have already made enquiries about the Atalanta defender.

Just like the Euros, Copa America also gave rise to some new stars as Argentina went on to lift the trophy. While most of the focus was understandably on their attackers, it was their defence that kept things real tight at the back.

Cristian Romero of Argentina disputes the ball with Neymar of Brazil today, in the final of the Copa America at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 10 July 2021.

A certain Cristian Romero from Atalanta bossed the backline for Argentina. However, one shouldn’t really be surprised as the talented defender is among the best young defenders in Serie A. He is a part of the exciting Atalanta side that is making its mark over the last few seasons.

Hence, the Argentine defender has attracted quite some interest from clubs such as Manchester United, Tottenham and Barcelona. Despite United keeping tabs on the player, it looks as if Spurs are moving ahead by making enquiries about him. United are said to be considering other options.

At 23, Romero has the best years ahead of him. He is slowly yet steadily establishing himself as a dominant defender. United should be wary of missing out on him to Spurs, who are actively trying to land the on-loan Juventus man.
