Transfer News: Derby County close to loan deal for Manchester United starlet Teden Mengi

According to transfer news from The Athletic (subscription required), Derby County are close to re-signing Manchester United starlet Teden Mengi on loan. The youngster spent the second half of last season at Wayne Rooney’s side and impressed well enough. Now he could be headed for a full season there.

One of United’s highest-rated youngsters, Mengi is held in high regard at United. He joined Derby back in February. Currently managed by United legend Wayne Rooney, the Championship side are keen to rebuild their side. The Rams have been left depleted by departures amidst financial concerns.

After being hit with sanctions from the EFL, they won’t be allowed to recruit any new names until they refile their accounts. Only when that is done, they can register new players. One name they are keen to bring back on loan is Teden Mengi, who spent the last half of the season there.

Mengi could return to Derby on loan

The talented defender played 9 times for the Wayne Rooney managed side last season. A versatile defender, Mengi can play anywhere across the backline. However, it is believed that the Rams are close to re-signing the 19-year-old on a season-long loan.

More Manchester United News:

It does look like a better decision to continue at Derby and develop. United already have a few names in defence and Mengi would not get much game time. As long as he receives enough game time, the deal will see everyone benefit. Hopefully, he will return to the club as a better player.
