Manchester United announced that they have renewed Juan Mata’s contract. The midfielder’s existing deal had officially expired a few days back but the club have now handed him a one-year extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2022.

Despite Mata becoming more of a peripheral figure at the club, his influence cannot be understated. With such a young and developing squad, it is important to have players like Mata who have experience and won everything there is.

A calm and happy presence, Mata gets on with the squad easily and guides the younger players. With his renewal in the books, it seems as if one of our best players has taken a cheeky dig at him.

Bruno Fernandes, who wears the No.18 jersey, seems like he is after the Spaniard’s No. 8. He joked that he would now have to wait another year to get that number. Manchester United fans were rather amused at this camaraderie between Bruno Fernandes and Juan Mata.
