Manchester United in touch with the agent of Leon Goretzka
According to Bild via Sport Witness (h/t Mirror), Manchester United have made contact with the agent of German international Leon Goretzka ahead of a potential summer switch to Old Trafford.
The Bayern Munich ace has just a year left on his current deal at the Allianz Stadium. With negotiations over a new deal having hit a stumbling clock, the Red Devils are looking to take advantage of the situation.
Ole Gunnar Solskajer is keen to strengthen his midfield and is readying to potentially replace Paul Pogba. The Frenchman, too, is in the final year of his contract and United have a decision to make this summer. With both Goretzka and Pogba not involved at the Euros anymore, hopefully, a resolution can be reached soon.
Goretzka is an integral part of the team at the Allianz Arena but Bayern are keen to avoid what happened with David Alaba. The Austrian left for Real Madrid for free after his contract ran out this summer. The prospect of losing another key player in similar circumstances is something that the Germans want to avoid.
The player, for his part, loves being at Bayern Munich and would prefer to stay if given the option. That has, however, not impacted his decision to move on should an agreement fail to be reached.
A Pogba replacement!
While Solskjaer would like to keep Paul Pogba, there is a lack of clarity regarding the Frenchman’s decision. With super agent Mino Raiola pulling the strings, it is better for the Red Devils to be prepared for any eventuality.
Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are all long-term admirers of Pogba. However, it remains to be seen if they can afford him this summer. United meanwhile will have to see off both Barcelona, as well as Real, both of whom are also interested in signing Goretzka this summer. (h/t The Mirror)
