Manchester United ace Luke Shaw responds to Jose Mourinho criticism

According to the Express, Luke Shaw has responded to the jabs former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho took at him. Shaw felt that he can now laugh about the whole thing after Mourinho spoke about his handling of the player during their time at Manchester United.

The 25-year-old just capped off his best season in a red shirt. It took a lot of work and some competition from Alex Telles to produce the best in him. Shaw was clearly among the standout performers in the Premier League and was recalled into the England side. He is currently starring for England in the European Championships.

However, Shaw does not have fond memories of Jose Mourinho, who was manager between 2016-18. During that time, the Portuguese manager was overly critical of Shaw’s performances, often pointing the finger at him for the side’s failings.

Earlier Mourinho spoke about how he tried to push Shaw to the limits while also criticising him for his performance for England against the Czech Republic. Nonetheless, Shaw responded well to his statements.

“I don’t really understand it, to be honest. I don’t know why he is still going on and wanting to point at me. I don’t feel like the set pieces were as bad as he was saying. I might have done one in the second half, a corner, that didn’t get over the first man. But that was one out of three. The other two or three, I don’t think, were as ‘dramatically bad’ as he says.

“Look, he has got to do his job. He has got his opinion. I am used to him saying negative stuff about me now, so I just pass it by. I leave it be, I ignore it. I just focus on what the coaching staff say here – what Gareth says – and that’s that, really.”

The English star finally came full circle after he started against Scotland. It was Shaw’s first start for England in a major tournament since the 2014 World Cup. Shaw has had a difficult career but it’s easy to forget he is still 25 and is entering his prime years. He will now be hoping to get another start for England as they take on Germany in the Euro 2020 Round of 16.
