Manchester United no more on good terms with Ronaldo agent Jorge Mendes

According to Pippo Russo, an investigative journalist for Italian outlet Domani via Area Napoli (h/t Sport Witness), has revealed that superagent Jorge Mendes, who represents Cristiano Ronaldo, is not on great terms with a number of clubs including Manchester United.

The Portuguese agent is still among the foremost agents in the game. However, it would appear he does not hold the same clout he once had at certain clubs. This has restricted the number of clubs he can do business with.

“The list is long: Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint Germain no longer want to hear about him.”

Given his relationship with a number of clubs is turning sour, Mendes has made efforts to reach out to others. That has however failed to lead to much success. The report goes on to add that the super-agent is largely marginalized in Italy.

Perhaps curiously, it suggests that his attempt to build a relationship with Juventus by landing them Cristiano Ronaldo was riskier than he thought. While the 26-year-old continues to impress, his future at the Turin giants appears to be coming to a close.

“He aimed for the big target: Juventus. However, he soon realised how financially risky the investment in Cristiano Ronaldo was.”

One of the clubs Ronaldo has been linked with is United. Whether our poor relationship with Mendes will impact the potential transfer remains to be seen.

Ageing like fine wine

Mendes has played a role in some big transfers made by United in the past two decades. He orchestrated the arrival and departure of Ronaldo from Old Trafford. Apart from this he also played a role in bringing Anderson, Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao to the Theatre of Dreams.

Mendes’ company Gestifute represents some of the biggest names in the sport today. It is very unlikely that we could go without doing any but of business with the Portuguese super-agent in the future. How that proceeds remains to be seen.
