Manchester City make an official bid for Manchester United target Harry Kane
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester City have made a proposal to Tottenham Hotspur regarding Manchester United target Harry Kane.
The English skipper appears to have had enough of life in North London after yet another trophyless season with Spurs. This has put the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all on alert. (h/t The Express)
It is however the Blue half of Manchester who have made the first serious punt to land him. The Sky Blues have made an official bid worth at least £100m, a figure that exceeds United’s club record.
According to Romano, Spurs will be guaranteed £100m in transfer fee and could also land themselves a player in part exchange. With the likes of Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Aymeric Laporte among the names mentioned, it is fair to say that Spurs could fetch themselves a sweet deal.
Pep Guardiola’s side are seeking a new striker following Sergio Aguero’s departure to Barcelona. While they do have Gabriel Jesus, the Brazilian is not the prolific scorer that Aguero was. In fact, City offering Jesus in part exchange shows that they consider him expendable.
In Kane, they will be landing not just the reigning golden boot winner but also one of the best strikers in world football. The 27-year-old is in his prime and is astute in finding the back of the net.
An impending saga?
Tottenham for their part do not appear to be ready to accept City’s bid. City landing Kane is bad news for United, who are also in need of another striker. Not only would we miss out on one of the premier players in the world, but he will strengthen our arch-rivals massively. With the Red Devils working on a move for Jadon Sancho, it is debatable if they will also be able to afford Kane.

United gained some respite in their hunt for a striker after Edinson Cavani extended his stay by a year. Despite also planning to use Mason Greenwood upfront, we could do with another forward going into the new campaign. As things stand, any approach we make for Kane will come from the backfoot.
